I moved back here in August from the East Bay. I had grown accustomed to Berkeley Parents' Network, PRAM, and so many other community resources that I could find within a couple of clicks, and I was seriously bummed that I couldn't find similar resources here.
I knew immediately that I would end up doing something, and my first bet was to start a Yahoo Group. Maybe that is not a bad idea, I started a couple in Richmond (Richmond Garden Club, Richmond Politics) with varying degrees of success. In the end, I don't feel that they had the reach that I wish they had. Syndicating with a blog is simpler, and there are sites such as Outside.in which link locales to content which will become more and more powerful as people engage.
I hope to talk about a few things on this blog, all related to kids and families.
- Community Events
What is going on around town? Not just the big things, the Expo and the Fireworks; looking at the little get togethers and playdates.
- Interesting Places
We've all been everywhere here, haven't we? Looking for those little places of interest.
- Learning
Books; docent-led hikes; storytelling and games.
- Nature
More docent-led hikes and fishing excursions. Walks along the river and the perfect bike ride.
- Fun
General whackiness.
- Religion
All the majors and all the minors. Is there a good meditation group out there?
- Clubs
I am sure that somewhere there is a Rocking Horse club. I want to find it.
- Sports
Bowling and fishing and soccer and now I see that kids are practicing lacrosse. Awesome.
- People of Interest
There are stories to be told.
There might be more that creep in, or some that are nixed over time, but you get the idea.
